Family
As mentioned last year, my cousin Dave and his wife expected and delivered a baby this year - Aina.
Work
Wow... what to say. The job is at the same place but there have been some changes. First off, one of my co-workers of at least a couple years, Yina, transferred to a position in Florida. Then there was a major re-org within our group and the divisions I'd been working with since just about the time I started with the group were changed, I now deal with the Construction divisions which have some of their own quirks, not to mention the management staff for those divisions both changed and were a lot less experienced. Within that org change we had two of our directors transferred to different areas of the company and my own manager transferred to a new group which was created specifically for doing the accruals. I found myself under a new manager (Vikram), who had been working with our group for awhile (though I really don't know how long) but on a different floor and who rarely interacted with any of us. There was a short awkward phase until he managed to get me and himself transferred to the 21st floor with some of our other group who'd been down there for over a year. Two new employees also joined our group, both fairly new out of college (Jason and Vince). Jason began working under Vikram and took over the division duties he'd been doing up til that point and Vince began working under Rosa. Some... conflict with how Vikram did his duties (after a particularly bad blow-up with a coworker of mine I think he was asked to tone it down a bit because he became a bit easier going after that), but overall he didn't mesh well with a number of the employees or managers; in November we found ourselves working for a week in NJ due to the damage caused by Sandy and shortly before we returned to our normal office Vikram took me and Jason out for some drinks and announced he was transferring to a new group by the end of the month. So as of right now I should probably expect a new manager to be hired sometime in 2013 to take over... that or some additional re-org in our group, I dunno because not really in the loop.
I finally got an answer on the "noodle incident" of why a manager at my company (not related at all to my group, though I'd interacted with him a bit since he was on my floor a lot). I can't say the truth was that shocking, I mean it was a bit crazy and I'm glad I'd gotten that question answered because the curiosity was too much :P
Conventions
Seem to be averaging this amount each year these days. Attended the comic dealer MoCCA Festival again, as usual I picked up some nifty indie comics to add to my collection. Also again attended NYC Comic Con, oh man it was super crowded. I think this was also the first time in a long time I was able to attend more than one day; even with three days it wasn't enough to experience everything.
Furry Con wise I attended Anthrocon again, this time taking the megabus... which had some advantages as well as disadvantages. FA United was another of the regular cons, this year though because of the timing I could only attend for a day, drove out to NJ on saturday and returned later that night. FurFright is the their regular con I've been attending. And for first time, since it's the first year in existence, Furry End of the World which was set to coincide with the Mayan Calendar.
Trips
Traveled to my college reunion again, another off year (twelve years since graduation), which again was fun and laid back - saw some which lives out there as well.
Traveled out to Las Vegas with family, got to see Evil Dead the Musical.
Entertainment
Saw the play Anything Goes with some friends, turned out to be the last performance for the lead actress Sutton Foster.
Once again I've kept a list of new books and movies, honestly for books I'd probably pick House of Leaves as my top pick. It's a little more difficult looking at movies, I very much enjoyed Dark Knight Rises, though quite a few others were fairly good though nothing blew me away.
Health and Fitness
Been doing a lot more running but lost most of the progress I'd made from the first half of the year in the second half. Even though I'd gotten lucky with the NYC Marathon lottery for the year, due to Hurricane Sandy the marathon was canceled. But I did complete more than enough races to get guaranteed entry into both the Marathon and Half-Marathon for 2013. As mentioned in my goals for the year, not doing so great on the weight-loss front. I was very close to making my goal for the year as early as April of 2012 and then... well, I'm going to blame a lot of stress at work on why I really lost my way, too much stress eating and skipping the gym too many days.
Something I added last year to this little recap of the year - one picture I took during the year and one picture taken of me taken in the year:
