Drove out thursday afternoon, checked in with coyoty and another friend of his. Wandered around the interestingly set-up hotel (finally caught on to its design by the end of the weekend :P ), and almost an hour before pre-registration pickup began decided to stand in what was a quickly expanding line. Was a good decision because by the time the room opened up the line wrapped around a good portion of the hotel, I heard they closed the door to badge pick-up even though there were still some folks on line. Got my badge maybe twenty-minutes after the doors were open - so only a full hour of waiting ^.^;;;
Met up with some folks and did a lot more wandering, ended up at one point in cliff_husky and pyrophin's room and partook of the foxcoon poison - got a bit tipsy at that point (has been a looong time since I last got drunk), met up with firefoxcp, happypup, and quentinor. Some more wandering and ended up at turrentwolfie's room party, a lot of chatting with different folks (and as might be obvious, won't be able to mention everyone's name I saw so apologies if I missed you in advance). Late late in the night Happy and I headed over to the local diner for some food (I think this was... two in the am?). I hadn't eaten much during the day, so the food helped a lot. Crashed when I returned to the hotel, had a bit of a hangover the next day.
Friday met up with some more folks I haven't seen in awhile, moved my stuff to the room I would be staying at for remainder of weekend (with catmandux, stoneliongrowl, and rjwolf), experienced that there is indeed a limit to the number of fat-furs who should ride together in an elevator (and thankfully it's a hotel with only four floors - can't imagine what happened at saaay Anthrocon or Further Confusion). Checked out the Dealer's Room - which although I always feel an interest in buying or commissioning something, I rarely do :/ Dropped in some raffle tickets for the charity auction (won the fursuit calendar at the end). Crashed a bit earlier because really starting to feel lack of sleep from work earlier that week catching up on me.
In advance of the con I had planned to check out a completely different convention with a local friend, the Rock and Shock post shall be forthcoming. After returning to Cromwell I grabbed some dinner with Derek at Joey Garlic's (needed some non-diner food at that point :P ). I offered to show Derek around FF a bit so took him on a quick tour of what I could show him of the con, he was definitely impressed with how things have grown - his only other furry experience occurred back in 2003 when I had brought both him and another non-fur friend to the first FurFright back.
Checked out more parties that night, dropped by the Hudsonfur party, arrived at the Cake-Con party a few minutes too late (they had a few issues with the hotel and had to shutdown early). And basically spent a good part of the night just wandering with a little bit of fursuiting mixed in.
Sunday spent most of the day in the game room - tried 7 Wonders (a game I'll likely pick up at some point) and Small World. Not much else to say for the day, headed back to New York before it got too dark. And thanks much to tigerman for the early birthday presents / not-too-subtle-get-on-xbox-live gift ;P
Was nice to see a lot of people I haven't mingled with in awhile, ranging from a year to years since I've seen many folks. I kinda liked the previous hotel the con was at, a lot more open areas compared to this one, and with the multiple badge checks I hope at some point FF does what FC has done and allow a duplicate badge for fursuiters to be issued. And maybe because of the cramped spaces, some of those fursuiters wandering around asking for donations felt a tad pushy and too numerous - when you're playing a game and get hit up for donations like four times before completing the game, feels a bit much ^.^;;; Had a decent time overall, wish I was more rested at the start to enjoy it a bit more.
